RV Maintenance
Owning an RV is a big responsibility and it’s important that you make sure your RV is always good to go. Generally, this means that you have to maintain it on a regular basis. While RV maintenance may seem daunting or like something that’s best left to a professional in every case, it’s actually really easy to perform some regular upkeep tasks at home.
RV Connection in Lawton is your Oklahoma RV dealer. Here’s some handy tips for maintaining your RV so you can keep it running smoothly for all your summer travels.
1. Review Your Owner’s Manual
While the tips below are broadly applicable to many types of RVs, it’s always good to review your owner’s manual to see what the manufacturer recommends you do for your particular make and model. You’ll find information like suggested products to use, tire pressure levels and how often to perform certain tasks.
2. Check Tire Pressure & Condition
Your RV’s tires need to be checked regularly, especially before a long trip. Use a tire-pressure gauge to check the psi levels and air them up to the manufacturer’s recommended levels. You’ll also need to examine each tire for signs of excess wear, including cracks in the sidewall, embedded objects and worn treads. Replace bad tires before you drive your RV again.
3. Engine Exam
Not every RV has an engine, but motorhomes do. If you’ve got a motorhome, you’ll need to maintain the engine just like you do your car or truck’s engine. Check the oil, keep the fuel tank filled up, examine spark plugs and replenish coolant. Test your battery if you haven’t driven your RV in a while; it’s always best to put an engine battery on a tender to help it hold a charge.
4. Lubricate Seals
The seals around your RV’s doors and windows, along with any slide-outs, need to be lubricated to ensure their proper functioning. Silicone sealant can easily prevent leaks that could otherwise cause mildew, mold and rot, and you can even use sealant to patch up small holes.
5. Wash Your Rig
You’ll need to keep your RV clean with a good thorough washing at least twice a season. It’s especially important to climb up on the roof and sweep away dead leaves and pine needles so they don’t cause damage.
Remember: if your RV needs some professional attention, you can always get in touch with the RV Connection service department to schedule an appointment with our mechanics. We’ll be happy to help you figure out what’s going on and get you back on the road as soon as possible.
