Going on a camping trip can cause a lot of dirt and debris to cake on the exterior of your RV. Even leaving it parked for a long time might expose it to the elements. It’s difficult to prevent your camper from getting dirty one way or another, and there are many great reasons to wash it on a regular basis. We’ve put together this brief guide that explains the basics of cleaning the roof and walls.

Cleaning the Roof

If there’s one part of your RV that you need to diligently clean on a regular basis, it would be the roof. A muddy, sappy roof will wear away quickly, which will lead to leaks and other structural damage, so it’s very important that you wash it every time it starts getting too dirty. You’ll want to use a light detergent, and have a hose or other water source easily accessible. We recommend breaking the roof into small sections. You should scrub one section at a time, then rinse it off before all the soap dries. After it’s all clean, give it one more rinse, then use a squeegee to ensure any excess water is pushed off the side.

Scrubbing the Exterior

For the sides, you can use the same detergent you used for the roof, and you’ll also want the same brush on a telescoping handle. You could pressure wash the sides if you have a pressure washer, but when using these, make sure you don’t hold the nozzle too close to the wall, and never keep the water pointed in one spot for longer than a second or two. When scrubbing with the brush, you should break each side into columns and wash each column separately. Similar to the roof, you don’t want the soap to dry and stick to the walls, so you can avoid this by rinsing each column after you scrub it down thoroughly.
